WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIMS MAY FOLLOW FATAL CRASH IN BRITISH COLUMBIA

Michael Golden Law Corporation May 9, 2017

A devastating crash occurred on a British Columbia Highway on a recent Friday evening. According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the accident happened on Lougheed Highway in Coquitlam. Losing a loved one is naturally a traumatic experience which can be exacerbated by the financial consequences, and wrongful death claims may follow this tragedy in which several lives were lost.

An accident report indicates that the collision that occurred just before 6:30 p.m. involved three vehicles and led to a road closure in both directions. RCMP officers say the cause of the head-on crash is still under investigation. Reportedly, three people died, and five others suffered injuries.

Those who were killed have been identified as two children who were in one vehicle — a 9-year-old and a 3-year-old. The third person was a 30-year-old woman who was an occupant of one of the other two cars. Officers reported that the on-site investigation continued through most of the night before the road was opened for traffic. The information about the circumstances that led to the crash was not made available.

Financial relief may be pursued by filing a wrongful death claim in a British Columbia civil court. The successful presentation of such a lawsuit might bring a monetary judgment to cover financial and emotional damages. However, the basis for any personal injury or wrongful death claim is negligence, and establishing proof of negligence by another party may be challenging. This process may be easier with the support and guidance of an experienced wrongful death lawyer who can also navigate the legal proceedings.
