At approximately 2 a.m. on Mar. 16, a 59-year-old man was pronounced dead as a result of an industrial accident at the Teck Coal Mountain mine in British Columbia. The mine is near Sparwood in southeaster BC. The operation is located on about 3,000 hectares of coal lands and produces coal for steel making and thermal uses. According to reports, a frozen rock fell from a vehicle and struck the man while he was filling his truck with water. He was transported to a nearby medical facility, but could not be resuscitated.
