Industrial accident causes fatality to 59-year-old man

At approximately 2 a.m. on Mar. 16, a 59-year-old man was pronounced dead as a result of an industrial accident at the Teck Coal Mountain mine in British Columbia. The mine is near Sparwood in southeaster BC. The operation is located on about 3,000 hectares of coal lands and produces coal for steel making and thermal uses. According to reports, a frozen rock fell from a vehicle and struck the man while he was filling his truck with water. He was transported to a nearby medical facility, but could not be resuscitated.

No other employees were reported to have suffered injuries, and an investigation has been launched by the Ministry of Energy and Mines to examine the details of the incident. The family was notified of the water truck driver's death recently, and the BC Minister of Energy and Mines expressed regret and offered condolences to them.

The decedent may have been the household's primary income earner, and his death may have caused unexpected financial losses to the family. That financial strain may be exacerbated by the cost of funeral and burial expenses. In order to offset those costs and damages, the family may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the liable parties that might result in court-ordered compensation.

In order to help this family file the claim, a personal injury lawyer might review reports and investigations related to the fatal accident. That lawyer may then be able to determine who was liable for the accident and might try to build a case that demonstrates that party's negligence.
